| About Students |
Northern Illinois University's Business in Action course provides students with an opportunity to add real value to a real organization through carefully designed student consulting projects that span across various topics and academic disciplines. Students will be split into teams of 4-5 so they can work to support each other throughout the project process.† There are four different project scopes for the students to choose from and work on. Each section of Business in Action will have two teams working on each project scope.

| Project Title | Research And Development For New Product |
| Project Synopsis |
What is the challenge or opportunity you are trying to address within your organization?
We are trying to create a value-added product in the form of CSA, Community Sourced Agriculture, boxes. We do not grow enough to facilitate a sustainable CSA, however, we believe we have the ability to partner with other farms to fill out the boxes. We are inexperienced in setting up a product offering and collaborating/partnering with other farms.
We will need to build a value-added product model that can serve as a rubric for future offerings. We will need to understand the requirements and details of vendor agreements/contracts. We will need to know cost-effective packaging materials as well as delivery methods (although we think pick up from a central location may be ideal).
We believe that a small, soft-launch, proof of concept CSA box subscription for the next growing season would be ideal. At the very least, we believe a solid vendor contract template and product model will allow us to soft launch later in the growing season if necessary.
What are some of the activities or action items you think will need to be taken to achieve your desired results? What would make this project a success for your organization? What measurable results are you looking to accomplish? |
